Tracey Emin, CBE

ARTIST

Tracey Emin has been creating provocative, confessional art in the public eye for over 20 years, but she remains best known for her 1999 Turner-nominated installation My Bed, which sold for over £2.5 million in 2015. Her art includes paintings, sculptures, installations, prints and needlework, all of which share candid disclosure as a theme. Emin was born in London and grew up in Margate, going on to study at Maidstone College of Art and the Royal College of Art. She emerged as one of the leading figures of the modern art scene in the early 1990s and won notoriety in 1995 with embroidered pop-up tent Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963-1995 on the advice of then-boyfriend Carl Freedman who suggested she create ‘some big work’ to make her name. Emin represented Britain at the 52nd Venice Biennale and has been a Royal Academician since 2007.
