Sir Mark Lyall Grant

National Security Adviser

A career diplomat who has served across a number of continents throughout the world, Sir Mark Lyall Grant assumed his role as the Prime Minister’s national security adviser in September 2015. Prior to his role, Lyall Grant spent six years as the British permanent representative to the UN, during which time he was president of the UN Security Council on four occasions. Lyall Grant graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge with a law degree and qualified as a barrister before deciding to join the Foreign Office.
