Sir Michael Kadoorie, GBS

Michael Kadoorie, the third generation son of an Iraqi family that settled in Hong Kong in the 1880s, oversees groups with assets as varied as the luxury hotel brand Peninsula hotels, local electricity supplier CLP (China Light and Power) Holdings, and the Peak Tramway. He also controls and is a director of Metrojet Ltd and Heliservices Ltd, and his CLP Research Institute explores renewable energy development. A trustee of the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation, he was awarded an honorary LLD from the University of Hong Kong in 2004, and has also been recognised with honours from France, Belgium and the UK.
