Mark Rylance

Actor, Director and Playwright

Considered one of the great actors of his generation, Mark Rylance is a master of both stage and screen, and has also written and directed for the theatre. Rylance studied at RADA in the late '70s before starring in various stage productions and films, winning his first Olivier Award for his portrayal of Benedick in a production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. For ten years from 1996 Rylance served as the artistic director of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, and wrote his first play after stepping down in 2007. In 2015, he played a major role in Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination, whilst also leading the cast in acclaimed BBC drama Wolf Hall.
