James Timpson, OBE

CEO, Timpson Ltd

James Timpson is currently the chief executive at shoe repair shop Timpson Ltd, which was founded in 1865 and passed down from generation to generation. Since assuming this role he has gone on to revolutionise the family business’s recruitment processes and develop the Timpson Foundation, the internal initiative offering help and support to charitable causes both within and outside of Timpson Ltd. When organising a conference at HMP Thorn Cross, Timpson was so impressed by the inmate showing him around that he handed over his business card, telling him to get in touch on release. Today that ex-prisoner is manager of a successful store, and Timpson Ltd has recruited staff from the prison system ever since. Timpson has gone on to help and encourage other companies to recruit from prisons and currently chairs the Employers Forum for Reducing Reoffending.
