2015 was the year of the General Election, with few – not least the pollsters – expecting the dramatic result and its after-effects. Resignations of both the Labour and Liberal Democrat leaders in the wake of the result triggered leadership contests, causing further unexpected developments. The gains made by the Scottish National Party and UKIP have also shifted the political landscape, while the campaign for a new London mayor is well underway. And with David Cameron having pledged that he will serve no more than four years of his second term as Prime Minister, a Conservative leadership contest waits in the wings.
