Professor Jane Dacre

President, Royal College of Physicians

Elected in 2014 as president of the Royal College of Physicians, Jane Dacre’s second year as doctors’ chief has been filled with debate as the row over pay and conditions between NHS junior doctors and UK health secretary Jeremy Hunt intensifies. As one of the leading figures for British medical practitioners, Professor Dacre’s views carry a great deal of weight, and she has expressed concerns over a planned seven-day NHS. She is currently an honorary consultant physician and rheumatologist at the Whittington Hospital, London, as well as being a director of UCL Medical School. Dacre wanted to pursue a career in medicine from a young age and graduated from University College Hospital Medical School in 1980. She is only the third woman to be elected as president of the RCP since its inception in 1518.
