Determined to solve the lack of financing options for small businesses, Darren Westlake founded Crowdcube in 2010. The world’s first equity crowdfunding platform, Crowdcube has inspired an entirely new kind of investor and allowed small businesses and start-ups to access the financial injections that banks’ administrative processes hinder. Since its launch in 2011, Crowdcube has successfully funded 345 projects, amassed 240,258 online investors and raised over £130 million in funds. Westlake has first-hand experience of the struggles that can and do face many aspiring businessmen, having been a serial entrepreneur since the age of 26 when he started his first business. He has since built and sold two companies and was awarded the Financial Services Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2014.
