Frances Morris

Director, International Art Collection, Tate Modern

Recently announced as Tate Modern’s new director, Frances Morris has worked for Tate galleries for almost 30 years. She joined Tate Modern when it opened in 2000 as its first head of displays, and takes the reins as it opens its new extension, a building to the south of the existing one which will give it 60% more space. During her time at Tate Modern, including as head of its international art collection for the past decade, Morris has driven greater representation of female artists and increased the gallery’s standing on an international stage. She has curated retrospectives of major female artists including Louise Bourgeois and Agnes Martin, and her boss Nicholas Serota has hailed her ‘flair, expertise and clarity of vision’.
