Cantopop singer-songwriter, actor, presenter and film producer Andy Lau has been one of Hong Kong's most commercially successful film actors since the mid-1980s, performing in more than 160 films while maintaining a successful singing career. In the 1990s, Lau was branded by the media as one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Cantopop and earned a Guinness World Record for the most awards won by a male Cantopop artist. His film work has spanned many genres, from comedies to martial arts pictures and gangster movies. He was awarded the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award at the 2006 Pusan International Film Festival in Korea after initiating a project, Focus First Cuts, to finance films from fledgling Asian directors, and is known for backing and mentoring younger and lesser-known actors and directors.
