Julian Barnes

novelist

Writer Julian Barnes has enjoyed a long and illustrious career in literature as a novelist and literary journalist. Having been shortlisted for the Booker Prize three times, he won it on the fourth occasion – and after only half an hour’s deliberation by the judges – with his 2011 novel The Sense of an Ending. Barnes’s early career was spent as a lexicographer at the Oxford English Dictionary, and then as a reviewer for the New Statesman and the New Review, where he suffered from a shyness that at times rendered him silent in meetings. Barnes's latest novel The Noise of Time, set in 1930s Russia, is due for release early in 2016, and in 2015 he published his first collection of art criticism, Keeping an Eye Open.
