Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy held the position of world number one for a total of 95 weeks, and has won four majors, becoming the first European to win three different ones. Despite inconsistent form during 2015, which he blamed on mental fatigue, McIlroy won the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship, and the Wells Fargo Championship, at which he achieved a course record. McIlroy was introduced to golf at a young age by his father, himself an accomplished golfer, who acted as his coach. In December 2015 he announced his engagement to PGA America employee Erica Stoll.
