Robert Kuok

Malaysian-born billionaire Robert Kuok has come a long way from his first job as an ‘office boy’, and now holds interests in sugar refineries, sugarcane plantations, oil, mining, finance, trading, properties, freight, and publishing across Asia. He opened the Shangri-La group of hotels in the 1970s and owns a large stake in Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post. The richest man in Malaysia since 2002, Kuok if famously media shy. He has eight children, one of whom, son Kuok Khoon Ean, now handles most of the day-to-day operations of his business.
