Baby Bridesmaids and Page Boys: Considerations

Dresses and outfits can be made from scratch, acquired from specialist companies or found on the high street.

The bride, her family or the parents of the bridesmaid/page may pay the bill. Sometimes the cost is shared.

If a dressmaker is used, the parents might pay for the fabric and the bride for the making-up.

If bridesmaids or pageboys live at a distance, the chosen dressmaker must be accommodating and willing to do much of the fitting by post and phone. Mothers can measure their children and ring the details through.

Children grow at an astonishing rate. Clothes must not be bought too far in advance or they may no longer fit come the wedding day. Dressmakers should also take this into account.

Making too much effort to coordinate young children can be a mistake and is likely to look contrived.
