Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart William Peach, GBE, KCB, ADC, DL

Vice Chief of Defence Staff

In January 2016 it was announced that Sir Stuart Peach would succeed retiring Sir Nicholas Houghton as Chief of Defence Staff, the head of the armed forces. He has been charged by defence secretary Michael Fallon with 'taking the fight to Daesh', or Islamic State. Peach was first commissioned into the RAF in 1977 and has served around the world. He became the first commander of the UK Joint Forces Command in 2011, and took up his current position two years ago. He will begin his new role in the summer.
