In 2015, 21-year-old Adam Peaty became the first British swimmer to win three gold medals at a world championships when he secured two victories in the breaststroke and one in the mixed medley relay at Kazan in Russia. He also holds the current world records for the 50m and 100m courses, and was the first person to swim 100m in under 58 seconds at the British Swimming Championships in April 2015. Peaty’s former mentor Rebecca Adlington said of him, He's one of those people who challenges himself all the time … he just amazes everyone, every step of the wayHe has twice been shortlisted for Sports Personality of the Year.
