Liam Maxwell

Government Chief Technology Officer

Liam Maxwell is the man responsible for driving innovation in public services at the helm of Government Digital Services, which controls the gov.uk public sector information website. A former head of IT at Eton, Maxwell was also Conservative councillor in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead from 2007 where he encouraged the use of open source and online services to streamline government services. He has been in the Cabinet Office since 2011 and worked for the government’s Efficiency and Reform Group where he provided expertise on the use of technology to provide more efficient, cheaper solutions. He became the UK’s first chief technology officer in 2012 and aims to make digital information and services simpler, clearer and faster: he believes user need should be prioritised ahead of the government’s.
