Qur’ans of the Umayyads: a First Overview by François Déroche is the 2016 I.R. Iran World Book of the Year. 

The winner of the second "Jozef IJsewijn Prize for best first book on a Neo-Latin topic" (triennium 2012-2015) is Valéry Berlincourt, Commenter la Thébaïde (16e-19e s.). Caspar von Barth et la tradition exégétique de Stace, Mnemosyne Supplements 354 (Leiden-Boston: Brill, 2013). 

The Guelph Centre for Scottish Studies is delighted to announce that the Frank Watson Book Prize for 2015 has been awarded to Dr Allan Kennedy of the University of Manchester. The prize-winning book, Governing Gaeldom: The Scottish Highlands and the Restoration State, 1660-1688 (Northern World, Leiden: Brill, 2014), examines the Highlands in the reigns of Charles II and James VII and the complex relationships that existed between the state, the Highland elites, and the Highland people. One of the strengths of the book is its success in showing repeatedly that the Highlanders were far from a single political or cultural group in this period, and the dangers of ‎simplistic assumptions about their governance and attitude towards the state. In a large and impressive field of books that reminded the committee how robust our subject is, Dr Kennedy's work stood out.

"Place-ing the Prison Officer. The ‘Warder’ in the British Literary and Cultural Imagination" by Cornelia Wächter published in Brill |Rodopi’s book series Spatial Practices in January 2015, is the winner of the 2015 BritCult Award. Congratulations!

Dimitri Gutas was awarded the 2015 I.R. Iran World Award for the Book of the Year for Avicenna and the Aristotelian Tradition: Introduction to Reading Avicenna's Philosophical Works. Second, Revised and Enlarged Edition, Including an Inventory of Avicenna’s Authentic Works (also available in paperback) in the field of Islamic/Iranian Studies.

Anne-Sylvie Boisliveau was awarded the 2015 I.R. Iran World Award for the Book of the Year for Le Coran par lui-même: Vocabulaire et argumentation du discours coranique autoréférentiel in the field of Islamic/Iranian Studies.

The 2015 CIES Joyce Cain Award for Distinguished Research on People of African Descent has been awarded to Professor Ali A. Abdi, University of British Columbia, for his article “Decolonizing Educational and Social Development Platforms in Africa”, in the special issue of African and Asian Studies, 12 (1-2, 2013) entitled: “The Owl of Minerva on a Baobab Tree, Schooling, and African Awakening: Half a Century of Post-Colonial Education for Development in Sub-Saharan Africa.”

Amos Yong was awarded the 2015 Frederick J. Streng Award for Excellence in Buddhist-Christian Studies for his book The Cosmic Breath: Spirit and Nature in the Christianity-Buddhism-Science Trialogue, published at Brill in 2012 as a part of the Philosophical Studies in Science and Religion Book Series. Congratulations!

“Entangled Subjects” by Michèle Grossman published in Brill | Rodopi’s Cross/Cultures book series, is this year's joint winner of the ASAL Walter McCrae Russell Award. The prize is awarded for 'the best book of literary scholarship on an Australian subject published in the preceding two calendar years'.

Elina Hankela was awarded the 2014 Donner Institute Prize for Outstanding Research into Religion for her dissertation, published at Brill as Ubuntu, Migration and Ministry: Being Human in a Johannesburg Church.
