Around 500 participants from Asia and beyond gathered in Sendai city, Japan, 13 to 17 November to address the challenges facing Asia’s protected areas - national parks, wilderness areas, nature reserves and so on - and to chart a course for their future.
The event showed how important protected areas are to addressing global challenges including climate change, biodiversity loss, sustainable development, and reducing the risk of disasters.
