Outdoors

As a Guide, you can enjoy the outdoors in many and varied ways such as outdoor cooking, bush care, wide games and much more.

  • abseiling,
  • water and boating activities,
  • archery,
  • high and low ropes courses,
  • hiking,
  • camping,
  • wide games and much more.

Weekly meetings are mostly held indoors at a regular meeting hall. However, there are many times you will have activities outdoors too. These activities will include games and learning basic skills to prepare you for camps and other outdoor adventures. You will not just participate in outdoor activities at weekly meetings as there are many opportunities for you to attend special outdoor activity days and camps held on weekends or in the school holidays.

Going camping and trying new outdoor activities with your Guiding friends is so much fun! You get to experience new adventures and laughs with your friends while working together in a small team (your Patrol).

The outdoors isn't just about physically challenging yourself, it is also about caring for the environment. In 2007, Australian Guides participated in the Girl Guides Australia's Guides say...project and identified their major concerns as climate change, water and the environment. The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, Global Action theme encourages Guides to advocate on the issues that concern them - speak, do and educate.

In 2009, Girl Guides Australia introduced Build a better World Resource and Challenges with many outdoor and environmental challenges to make a positive difference to the world.
