Girl Guide Biscuit Competitions

Congratulations to our amazing winners of our Girl Guide Biscuit Competitions!

The Chief Commisssioner and the Assistant Commissioners were the judges of our inaugural biscuit competitions.   They were amazed at the talented entries they received and found it a very hard process coming to a decision about the winning entries.  Robinette, our Chief Commissioner had this to say:

"To all our wonderful Guiding community, we have been blown away by the amazing talent in our Guiding community.   There are so many budding designers and video producers within our Girl Guides and all of our entries have perfectly shown us the spirit of Girl Guides while simultaneously communicating why our biscuit campaign is so important to us.  However it is a competition and despite a really difficult time choosing the winning entries from amongst so much talent, the Assistant Commissioners and I have come to a unanimous decision. The winning entry for our Biscuit Poster Competition is Poppy.  Our Biscuit Video Competition was much harder to decide. It came down to two very different entries, so we proud to announce two winners: Hailey from the Yarraville Turtles and Liliana and Caitlin from Kaniva Guides."

Biscuit Poster Competition -

Poppy

The winner entry for our Biscuit Poster Competition is Poppy. Poppy is seven years old from South Victoria. She loves colouring in and drawing, so her poster features a glittering rainbow highlighting the Guiding values. These include respect, optimism, honesty, thoughtfulness, courage and striving for a better world.  Poppy’s favourite value is Friendship because she says the best thing about Girl Guides is “having fun and making new friends”.  As part of Girl Guides, Poppy has taken part in a range of activities since joining guides including craft, cooking, water games and an excursion to the Science Works museum. Both she and her mum are so glad she is part of our worldwide movement!

Biscuit Video Competition -

Hailey

Our Biscuit Video Competition winners are Hailey from the Yarraville Turtles and Liliana and Caitlin from Kaniva Guides.

Hailey is the producer of our winning Claymation video. We were amazed by her creativity and originality. Hailey joined Girl Guides just this year, but has engaged really well with the program and loves the sense of adventure. Hailey loves Claymation, even modelling Olly and Aggy out of clay and leaving clay models around the house! She threw herself into the task by brainstorming ideas on what guiding is all about, and we felt her opening line summarised it perfectly: to help girls to be their best..

Liliana and Caitlin

Liliana and Caitlin starred in the Kaniva Guides biscuit infomercial. They were encouraged by their Unit Leader Helen and stepped up to the challenge, displaying confidence and enthusiasm for Guiding. Liliana has a keen interest in video and photography. She is the Brumby Patrol Leader and is currently on a 10 week Outdoor Education Leadership School. Caitlin is the Emu Patrol Leader for a group of Junior Guides for which she plans and runs activities. Caitlin is an invaluable member as she also helps out at most community events and camps. Both girls are also undertaking the Baden-Powell Award. These girls are wonderful role-models for other Guides and I look forward to seeing what other wonderful things they will achieve in this program.
