RADFORD, Va (WVIR) -

The Riverheads boys soccer team won the state title for the first time in program history on Saturday, as the Gladiators beat Northampton 6-1 in the VHSL 1A State Finals at Radford University.

Riverheads led 2-0 at halftime on the strength of two goals from James Kasak, and the senior scored three times in the game.

Elijah Knopp had two goals for undefeated Riverheads, and Samuel Puffenbarger also found the net.

"It feels great," says Kasak.  "It's everything we could have asked for at the end of the season. I get to finish off with a win and 22-0. There's nothing more you could want."

Head coach Scott Harrison says, "That's great, I love that achievement (22-0). That's hard to do. That just shows points out how the boys were able to stay focused for each game they played."

"It's absolutely insane," adds Knopp. It's really almost is so surreal. It's incredible to do it with this group of boys, and Scott, who I've played for for so long. It's absolutely amazing. It doesn't even feel real."
