 General enquiries

There is an Information Desk in the Entrance Hall where staff can help you with questions about what you can do and see.

 Access for visitors with disabilities

There are parking bays in Ossulston Street and step-free access to the building, which is modern and spacious and well supplied with lifts. More information about access

 Cloakroom

The cloakroom is on the lower ground floor. Coats and bags can be left in the Cloakroom, but space is limited and metal-framed items and bags larger than 56cm in any dimension cannot be accepted. Lockers and secure coat rails for daily use are also available. The lockers operate with a returnable £1 coin.

 Luggage restrictions

We restrict the size of luggage you can bring with you to airline ‘carry on’ size. This is to discourage non-Library users from taking advantage of our luggage facilities. The ‘carry on’ size is 56cm (H) x 45cm (W) x 25cm (D). There is a size gauge outside our entrance, so you can check if your bags will fit. There is no restriction on pushchairs, foldaway bicycles, umbrellas or walking sticks.

 Exhibition galleries

To the left of the Entrance Hall is the entrance to the galleries, with a lift between the upper and lower levels. There are audio, visual and tactile displays. The lighting levels are low to help conserve the exhibits. Some people find the galleries cool, so please wear sufficient clothing for your comfort. Large-print copies of labels for the display cases are available on request from the Information Desk. For special exhibitions, you should allow 90 minutes. Please note that photography is not permitted.

 Café and Restaurant

The Café and Restaurant overlook the King's Library to the rear of the Entrance Hall. The Café is on the Upper Ground Floor. The Restaurant, to which there is lift access, is on Floor One. More

 Free WiFi

You will need to create a new WiFi account, which you can do when you visit the Library. Just follow the on-screen instructions. The Library uses web filtering software to prevent access to certain categories of website on its wireless network. More
