CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

A group of bikers is pedaling 3,600 miles across country for a cause that impacts 5 million Americans.

Tuesday evening cyclists from Western Kentucky University rolled into Charlottesville - one of the last stops on their two month trip from Seattle to Virginia Beach.

Their organization, Bike4Alz just became a nonprofit. It helps raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s research.

“In 2010 one of our fraternity brothers lost his grandfather to Alzheimer's and so he had this dream to bike across the country and raise money. And so every other summer since then, we've been doing the same thing. And this was our summer. We wanted to make this special,” said Taylor Leigh of Bike4Alz.

From Charlottesville the bikers will make their way to Virginia Beach, meeting family and friends there for a final fundraising event on Friday.
