CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is expected to announce her vice presidential candidate this weekend.

Virginia politics is all abuzz over the upcoming news, because United States Senator Tim Kaine appears to be at the top of Clinton's list.

University of Virginia Center for Politics Director Larry Sabato says Sen. Kaine is the vice presidential frontrunner, and has been the frontrunner all year long.

Sabato says it would be a surprise if Kaine isn't on the ticket with Hillary Clinton.

The director adds the 57-year-old matches the former secretary of state very well.

"He's sober and serious. He's quiet. There's no grand standing from Tim Kaine, and it's pretty clear that's exactly what Hillary Clinton likes," Sabato said.

Sabato also says Kaine's governing style will be helpful on the campaign trail: the senator was once mayor of Richmond and governor of Virginia. Kaine was also chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Clinton has said she admires Kaine's work in the United States Senate.

The Center for Politics says Kaine will help Clinton capture the commonwealth’s 13 Electoral College votes in the race to the White House.

The center also says being a part Clinton’s administration would be a tremendous promotion for Kaine, eventually putting him in line to run for president.

If he gets put on the ticket with Clinton and they win, Kaine will be only the third vice president from Virginia.
