Children's Programs

The Staunton Public Library gives families and teachers many ways to make stories and reading fun. See also Programs and Events for other special programs.

Description of Regular Programs

Mother Goose Time - Tuesday through Thursday at 9:30 am - Mother Goose Time is for babies and toddlers from birth to age 2. The programs feature rhymes, songs, and activities suitable for babies. Older siblings enjoy Mother Goose Time, too.
Toddlertime - Monday and Tuesday at 10:30 am - short stories, puppets, and activities especially for 2 and 3 year olds accompanied by an adult.
Preschool Storytime - Wednesday at 10:30 am - books, stories and language development activities especially-chosen for 3-5 year olds.
A Little Cool Stuff - Thursday at 3:45 pm [2:00 in summer] - stories, songs, and activities just right for children in pre-school, kindergarten and grade 1.
Cool Stuff - Wednesdays at 3:45 pm [2:00 in summer] - Cool Stuff is a great time for kids to learn about books, culture, and language without pressure. Children in Grades 2-5 will love this combination of literature, crafts, songs, and games.

TumbleBooks are animated, talking picture books, suited for elementary school children.

DayByDayVA is an online family literacy calendar, activity guide, and resource center. Each day the website suggests short-but-fun activities to help develop pre-reading skills and offers a short animated video for families to watch together.

Great Websites for Kids is a compilation of exemplary websites geared to children from birth to age 14.

Homework Help is available online for students in grades 3-12 needing help in Math, Reading or Writing. Hours are Monday-Thursday 3pm-9pm, and Saturdays 9am-3pm.

NoveList K-8 Plus is a database about books specifically for younger readers. It helps kids find books that are just right for their reading level and interests. Parents and teachers can also find tools to teach with books and engage young readers.
