CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

The Tom Sox won 5-0 at Covington in their final game of the 2016 Valley Baseball League season Tuesday night.

The game was shortened to five innings due to rain.

Charlottesville (15-27) scored all of its runs in the 2nd inning.

Bruce Steel hit a solo home run to start the inning, and Jack Morris, Justin Novak, and Dan Wondrack all followed with RBI-hits.

Matt Sullivan pitched five innings, giving up just two hits, while striking out six.

Waynesboro won 8-0 at home against Staunton Tuesday night.

Those same two teams will play in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday.

Tanner Poole had a triple, a home run, and four RBI for the Generals in the regular season finale.

Seven different Waynesboro pitchers combined to give up just two hits in the shutout victory.
