Big August heat and humidity will remain with us though the weekend and into early next week. A ridge of high pressure, Bermuda high pressure, off the Atlantic coast will continue to usher in a south/southwest wind flow keeping us unseasonably hot and humid into the start of next week. Heat advisories will continue this weekend, during the afternoon for most areas across Central Virginia, where heat index values (real feel temperatures) will top out well above 100°. Take all those steps to stay cool! This weekend into the start of next week rain chances look to remain very low as a result of this large area of high pressure. Isolated storms will be possible and are most likely to develop along and west of the Blue Ridge. A few may drift into parts of Central Virginia but most locations look to remain dry. Where storms do develop some locally heavy rain will occur. By the second half of next week the ridge of high pressure will start to slowly break down. This will allow a slow moving cold front to approach the area from the north and west. This front may stall out for the second half of next week bringing a slightly better chance for scattered showers and t-storms. Temperatures should cool back down into the 80s, but it will still remain humid.
