Two people are behind bars without bond after trying to run away from police during a traffic stop.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office says they tried to pull over 29-year-old Quinton Fisher and 32-year-old Megan Baker on Sunday, August 14, along Route 262 for speeding but they took off towards Churchville.

Authorities say they threw heroin out of the car before jumping out and running.

Fisher, who was driving the vehicle, was found in a house in the 1400 block of Scenic Highway. He was arrested on three outstanding warrants, possession with the intent to distribute heroin, and some other charges.

Baker was found near the home. She was also arrested on three outstanding warrants.

Media Release from the Augusta County Sheriff's Office:

On Sunday, August 14, 2016, the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on Route 262 in the area of Springhill Road. The vehicle was speeding, and the deputy witnessed the vehicle passing other vehicles in a no passing zone.

When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle sped up and exited Route 262 towards Churchville. The vehicle proceeded through Churchville onto Scenic Highway. Items were thrown from the vehicle as the driver refused to stop.

The vehicle began slowing down in the 1400 block of Scenic Highway, and as it slowed, the driver jumped from the vehicle. The female passenger also exited the vehicle, and both proceeded to run. The vehicle hit an ACSO police cruiser due to the driver exiting the vehicle.

The male ran to a residence nearby and entered the basement of the home. Deputies entered the residence and the male was taken into custody. The male was identified as 29-year-old Quinton Fisher of Staunton.

The female was also found in the area and identified as 32-year-old Megan Baker of Staunton. She was also arrested for three outstanding circuit court warrants.

The items that were thrown from the vehicle were recovered. They were field tested and it was determined to be heroin. The items will be sent to the state lab for analysis.

Fisher was charged with possession with the intent to distribute heroin, felony eluding, criminal trespass, and reckless driving.

Baker was arrested on two probation violations from Augusta Circuit Court and one probation violation from Rockingham Circuit Court.

Both are being held at Middle River Regional Jail without bond.
