Freedom of the Seas

Freedom of the Seas is the first cruise ship in a series of three “Freedom-class” cruise ships for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Turku shipyard delivered Freedom of the Seas in 2006.

Along with features such as the surfing simulator "flow rider" and cantilevered whirlpools that have never before been seen on a cruise ship Freedom of the Seas is outfitted with the world's largest fitness centre at sea and the first a full-size boxing ring. Rock-climbing, ice-skating and Royal Promenade introduced by the previous vessel series can be found onboard, too.

The Freedom class is a lengthened version of the Voyager of the Seas class of which five ships were delivered in 1999 - 2003. Roughly 15 percent larger than Voyager, Freedom of the Seas is 38.6 meters wide (126 feet) and 339 meters long (1,112 feet). There is 18 decks and the cruising speed is approximately 22 knots. At 100 percent double-occupancy, it will carry 3,600 guests and a crew of 1,400.
