Excellence isn’t the bar, rather it is the standard amongst a select group of 40 undergraduate students who are soon to be Astronaut Scholars, a merit scholarship awarded by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF). Perhaps most interesting beyond the amount awarded annually to deserving students, up to $10,000 per recipient, is the support that ASF builds into the scholarship program; namely through the mentor and workforce development programs, and inclusion as well as active participation into exclusive events. Former Astronauts Al Worden and Chris Ferguson Appointed to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) Board of Directors The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of former astronauts Al Worden and Chris Ferguson to its board of directors. This will be Ferguson’s first appointment to the board, while Worden, a past chairman for the organization, is returning after a brief time away. “Both gentlemen have a strong involvement with ASF and have a true commitment and enthusiasm for this mission. Astronaut Scholar Karen Feigh (1999, 2000) is a professor in the Aerospace Engineering Department at Georgia Tech. She has received a grant from NASA and the National Space Biomedical Research Institute to help answer questions about astronaut health and performance during future long duration missions beyond low Earth orbit. Congratulations to 2014 Astronaut Scholar, Benjamin Cromey, for being awarded a recipient of the National Science Federation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Cromey is one of 2,000 award recipients from a pool of 17,000 applications. This award will cover the next three years of graduate study for Benjamin. Learn more about the announcement from NSF.

Congratulations to Astronaut Scholar Christina Hammock who has completed two years of intensive training and now moves from being an astronaut candidate into the astronaut corps! She was chosen as an astronaut candidate by NASA in 2013 from 6,300 applications, the second largest group of applications ever received by NASA. Read NASA’s latest news release!

2015 marked the 25th anniversary of the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame (AHOF). This year’s induction celebrations took place on Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30. Space legends from the past 50 years united to celebrate the newest inductees and their contributions to manned space exploration. Four Space Shuttle astronauts entered into this prestigious group: John Grunsfeld, Steve Lindsey, Kent Rominger, and Rhea Seddon.
