The Chandrabhaga beach is very close ( just 3 kms ) to the famous Sun temple Konark – a World Heritage Monument in Orissa, is one of its biggest asset both from the aspect of the tourism industry and the history of the place. The beaches of Orissa play a dominant role in their history and Geography and the Chandrabhaga beach in Orissa is intrinsically linked to the past of the region. The golden sand and the casurina trees add to the natural glamor of the beach. Here religious people in large number take holy dip in this confluence on the Magha Saptami day which falls in the month of February-March every year. There is also a functional light house here. In the early days river Chandrabhaga joined the sea here but now only the confluence remains to be seen.

Originally, the waters of the Chandrabhaga beach used to flow towards the celebrated sculpted wheel on the Konarak Temple but today, the Sea has shifted and it is almost 2 Kilometers away from the Temple. Being the site of such a historical and religious monument, the Chandrabhaga beach in Orissa attracts a lot of tourists who come to get a glimpse of this architecturally beautiful and antique piece of history.

The Chandrabhaga beach is considered to be one of the most attractive beach in Orissa and it is also an ideal place to enjoy the intricate creations of nature. The solitude and and natural panorama that this beach offers is beyond description. However, this picture of serenity and calm changes drastically during the days of the annual Chandrabhaga Fair. This seven day long festival in honor of the sun God is accompanied by rituals and religious acts at the Sun Temple and as well as the beach. The beach becomes a fair ground and is flocked by colorful people, vendors and tourists.

How to Reach Chandrabhaga Beach?

By Air: There is no airport at Konark. Bhubaneswar which is 65 km and Puri which 31 km are the nearest airheads.

By Rail: The nearest railheads are also at Puri and Bhubaneswar. These two stations are connected to all the major cities in India through long-distance trains.

By Road: Taxis, air-conditioned tourist cars, minibuses, and deluxe coaches can be used for sightseeing. For short distances, it is advisable to use cycle rickshaws and three-wheelers.
