Hatipathar Waterfall

Deriving its name from the two words – Hathi (elephant) and Pathar ( rocks ), the Hatipathar waterfall is located just 3 kms away from Rayagada and is a part of the Nagavali River that carves out two wondrous waterfalls in its pathway offering some lovely picnic spots. The river Nagavali flows here through a deep cut valley leaving huge boulders precariously perched on rocky beds. The Hathipathar Waterfall is one of the most beautiful Waterfalls in Jeypore and is a marvelous place to hangout with packed lunch and all, for a whole day. The dense foliage and the thickly vegetated slopes of the hills surrounding the place are saturated with the forlorn glory emitted by the wilderness. The waterfall gets its name from the huge elephant shape rocks present here. The river flows through a deep cut valley, thus creating two extraordinarily beautiful cascades.

This waterfall has gained immense popularity as a picnic spot and tourists flock here to enjoy the natural vista of the surrounding. The rocky cuts of the mountain here appear like colossal elephants and travelers come here in large number to unwind the city blues.

The waterfall is around 500 kms from Rourkela and can be reached via the State Highway 10. Some of the other important cities near the waterfall are – Koraput (113 kms), Sunabeda (131 kms) and Jaypore (135 kms).
