Laxmi Baraha Temple

laxmi-baraha-templeSri Sri Laxmi Baraha Jew Temple is an 500-year-old temple dedicated to lord Varaha along with his consort Laxmi instead of Bhudevi. It is also known as Lakshmi Varahajew Mandir, is an ancient shrine located in Aul, in Kendrapara District. Aul is situated at about 146 km from state capital Bhubaneswar. Lakshmi Baraha Temple enshrines the Varaha form of Lord Vishnu along with his consort Goddess Bhudevi. Mahavishnu took the form of a boar to rescue Goddess Bhumi Devi from demon Hiranyakashyap. The temple is 17 km from Pattamundai and 38 km from Kendrapara.

The ancient temple was constructed by King of Aul, who was a great devotee of Lakshmi Varaha. The present temple was renovated by Aul Late Sri Brajasundar Dev during the 20th century.

Myth of the Laxmi Baraha Temple

King of Aul was a devotee of Lord Lakshmi Baraha. The Lord was situated in the Maa Biraja Pitha at the Jajpur District along with Yajna Varaha Temple. The king used to go there for offering Puja.Once in the month of Shraavana flood came in the Baitarani River,so the darshan was cancelled. But the Lord couldn’t tolerate that. The king dreamed a dream that the Lord wants to come with him to his place to Aul . And one day the Lord came, following the king’s path of return. As the king was returning through his horse, he was listening the sound of Lords following him. Around one km before the king’s palace the sound of Lord’s walking stopped. In this place devotee king built the Lord’s holy temple.

Baraha dwadashi on Maagha shukla dwadashi gathers a lakh of devotees. Baraha Dwadashi and Baraha Dola Yatra are the important festivals celebrated in Lakshmi Varaha Temple, Kendrapara. The temple also celebrates Raja Parva, Vijaya Dashami, Kumar Purnima, Kartik Purnima, Ratha yatra, Bakula Amawasya, Samba Dasami, Makara Sankranti, Pana Sankranti, Subha Sunia, and Sree Panchami.
