Competitive Edge

The revolutionary concept of combining an icebreaker and a subsea intervention vessel has proven its unbeatable competitive edge. Both previous multipurpose icebreakers built by STX Finland, MSV Fennica and MSV Nordica, have an excellent track record in the heaviest duties a vessel can be expected to work.

The combination of brute force, the state-of-the-art manoeuvrability and excellent seakeeping properties has led to totally new spheres of applications both in icebreaking and subsea intervention duties. The manoeuvrability is perhaps the most astonishing feature of these vessels.

By using two azimuthing thrusters as their main propulsion the vessels can manoeuvre extremely accurately and in dimensions which are purely impossible for any conventionally propulsed vessels. As an example - in icebreaking the propulsion technology has literally opened new routes, since by using the thrusters blowing in an outward angle it is possible to open a wider passage for the assisted vessels.
