ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

Personnel from the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Division spent their weekend learning skills to respond to emergencies.

This course is designed for law enforcement and first responders to a search and rescue incident. The group participated in simulations involving a missing person, using GPS technology, clue investigation, and rescue tutorials.

The goal was to teach these volunteers to act as quickly as possible in dangerous situations.

"Imagine yourself; a family with a 5-year-old child missing. It's 5:30, it's getting dark and it's cold. What do you want to see happen? You want to see someone out there on a hasty search not standing around organizing," Cpt. Guy Williams of the Reserve Division said.

The sheriff's office Reserve Division participates in these exercises twice a year and goes through standard training each month.
