Whether youâre a fan of 90s anime and manga, or you simply dig futuristic Japanese cityscapes and high-octane fight scenes, the new trailer for the live-action film, Ghost in the Shell, is certainly worth a look. Check it out above.

The decision to go with a caucasian actor for the protagonistâs role was met with considerable backlash from fans of the series. Producer Steven Paul responded by downplaying the Japanese elements in the movie, but as The Verge notes, the footage shown in the trailer, which features all-too-familiar streets adorned with kanji signage, hardly helps to dispel any of those concerns.
Weâll have to wait until March 31 next year to see if the film can transcend its identity crisis and fittingly pay tribute to one of the worldâs most popular manga franchises.
