Supporting San Diego

Extension supports a collective of public programs designed to improve the region's economy through entrepreneurial development, research, and information exchange. Organizations like San Diego Dialogue promote healthy commerce and community by inviting diverse groups to share their visions. By inspiring ideas, encouraging action and providing resources, Extension's public programs have enhanced San Diego's economic opportunities.

Academic Connections

Academic Connections provides students with access to the resources of a research university. This program gives motivated students the opportunity to explore different fields of study, pursue their interests and better prepare for a university experience. A combination of summer residential programs, year around academies, and distance education courses will extend the reach of the University, better serving the San Diego community and beyond.

Center for Research on the Regional Economy

Located on the San Diego Campus of the University of California's Extension Division, the Center for Research on the Regional Economy (CRRE) focuses on 1) technological innovations; 2) global trends and 3) industry developments which are shaping regional economies. Specific emphasis is placed on regional workforce trends and the impact of universities, research institutions, and continuing education on regional economic growth.

The Helen Edison Lecture Series presents free public lectures on issues advancing humanitarian proposes and objectives. Past speakers include Al Gore, Muhammad Yunus, John Kenneth Galbraith, Naom Chomsky, Luis Valdez, and Toni Morrison.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UCSD, formerly known as the Institute for Continued Learning (ICL), is a membership program for retired and semi-retired people who want to be a part of a learning community of peers. Directed by its members, Osher offers twenty different programs each quarter. Subjects include archaeology, science, tai chi, computing, live musical performances, literature, foreign languages, and master courses and lectures from UCSD faculty members.

UCTV

UCTV broadcasts educational and enrichment programming from the campuses, national laboratories, and affiliated institutions of the University of California. UCTV delivers science, health and medicine, public affairs, humanities, and the arts to a general audience, as well as specialized programming for health care professionals and teachers. UCTV is available to over 22 million homes nationwide on satellite and cable, and worldwide via live stream, video archives and podcasting.

UCSD-TV

UCSD-TV, the only broadcast television station operated by the University of California, is an Emmy Award winning non-commercial station which extends the resources of the university to the greater San Diego community and partners extensively with regional civic, cultural and arts institutions in programming. UCSD-TV broadcasts on UHF Channel 35, Cox Communications, and Time Warner Cable. Programs from UCSD-TV and other University of California campuses are broadcast nationwide on UCTV and on demand.
