Atlantic Region

The Atlantic Regional Office of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada encompasses four provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. There are thirty-four (34) First Nations in the Atlantic Region with a registered population of 23,689 on reserve and 39,415 off reserve, for a total population of 63,104 as of November 30, 2015. Within the Atlantic Region there are also five Inuit communities located in Labrador.

The Regional Director General is Christopher McDonell.

In general, INAC has primary, but not exclusive, responsibility for meeting the federal government's constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Northerners.
