Skoda started out producing fairly advanced cars, until the Czech government took over the company after the war and concentrated on pre-war influenced saloons for the masses. First UK announcement of these sturdy saloons came in 1955, with imports following shortly afterwards. The same rear engined format remained in various updated bodies until the VW take over in the late 80’s, which like Seat, transformed the companys products and subsequent image.
