The Granada successfully replaced both the UK Zephyr/Zodiac cars and the European Taunus models in 1972. The Consul name was retained for smaller engined models until 1975. The range was enhanced by a factory built estate and coupe model, with Europe also receiving 2 door saloons. The successive mk2 continued the same theme until the Sierra influenced hatchback model arrived in 1985, although saloon and estate version eventually arrived. The Granada model was axed in 1997 and not replaced.
