Dutch firm Daf started manufacturing cars in 1958, with UK imports starting in the same year. Known for their variable belt drive transmission for easy driving, the firm attracted reasonable sales throughout the period. Later models used Renault engines, with improving technical specifications into the 70’s. Volvo absorbed the company in 1975 and subsequent models were rebadged as Volvo’s. The DAF developed 343 model remained in the Volvo line until the late 80’s (mostly due to UK demand) after which the factory continued to produce Volvo cars.
