Acquired by GM in the 20’s, Vauxhall started off as a luxury brand, with increasing parent control Vauxhall lost all design independence with the demise of the long running Viva models in 1980 and are now essentially the British arm of the European company. The interjection of Opel influence in the late 60’s and especially in the 70’s did improve the cars considerably and helped retain the badge for use on British roads, although all models since the 80’s are no more than rebadged GM products.
