Pre-War Riley had established a reputation for advanced small saloons with a enviable sporting record, but due to financial difficultly bought by Morris and thereafter became badge engineered versions of Morris cars. The marque continued much as the same vein as Wolseley offering a range of cars with modified finishing and furnishing until the brand was axed by the ailing British Leyland in 1969.
