The relative short distance between the UK and France meant that Citroens relationship was forged early on, with imports arriving in the shortly after the first cars in the 20’s. Citroen also assembled cars in the UK from the late 40’s. Despite the relative complexity and innovation of their cars, Citroens have generally sold well in the UK. Peugeot took over control in 1974 which diluted some of this innovation but allowed the company to survive.
The Citroën 2CV was an air-cooled economy car introduced in 1948. UK assembled cars were produced from 1953 to 1960, then imports officially starting in 1974. It was sold as a 4 door saloon, with the panel van not being an official import. The last model was built in 1990.
The Citroën Dyane was based on the 2CV, with a production run from 1967 to 1983. Two versions were offered, a 5 door hatchback and a panel van. UK imports started in 1968.
The Citroën Ami is a supermini produced from 1961 to 1978. It was offered as a 4 door saloon, 5 door hatchback and 5 door estate.
The Citroën Méhari was an off-road compact SUV built from 1968 to 1988. Never available as an official import in the UK.
The Citroën LN and Citroën LNA are supermini automobiles produced between 1976 and 1986, although only the LNA was imported into the UK for a short period from 1982 to 1985. The car was essentially a rebodied version of the Peugeot 104 Z.
The Citroën Visa was a 5 door supermini that was produced from 1978 to 1988.
The Citroën GS (1970–80, sedan and wagon) and Citroën GSA (1979–86, liftback and wagon) were small family cars. The GS was voted European Car of the Year for 1971.
The Citroën BX is a large family car that was produced from 1982 to 1994.
The Citroën DS is executive car manufactured from 1955 to 1975 in saloon, estate and convertible body configurations. From 1957 to 1965 the DS was assembled from kits in the UK.
The Citroën CX is an executive car produced from 1974 to 1991, made in 4 door saloon and 5 door estate form. The CX was voted European Car of the Year in 1975.
The Citroën SM is a Maserati engined high-performance coupe produced from 1970 to 1975, the car was only ever imported with LHD.
The Citroën H Van, Type H, H-Type or HY is a panel van produced between 1947 and 1981. They were not officially imported into the UK, so all are LHD.
