The Russian built cars were first imported in 1974 based on a modified Fiat design, sold mostly for their value for money and mechanical simplicity. Imports ceased in the mid 90’s, but a small and loyal following mean that a handful remain in the UK. The high numbers of survivors in Eastern European countries suggests that these cars are more durable than given credit for.
