The first of these technically advanced and charismatic cars first arrived in the UK in 1953, however the company struggled to become cost effective despite the success of the Fulvia. Fiat took over the company in 1969 and Lancia lost much of their unique appeal, with a handful of exceptions. Imports into the UK ceased in 1994 but restarted in 2011 under Chrysler badges. Pre 50’s cars had the advantage of leaving the factory with RHD, due to pre-war Italy requiring to drive on the left hand side of the road.

Lancia’s first Supermini was introduced in 1985, as a replacement for the non-imported Autobianchi A112. The car was withdrawn from UK markets in 1991, 4 years before the production actually ended.
