Toyota were one of the first Japanese manufactures to import cars into the UK, with dealer networks set up in 1965. Neutrally styled, easy to drive and conventionally engineered to a high standard, Toyota imported a wide selection of vehicles including the well established Land Cruiser and what was to become the worlds most popular car, the Corolla.
The KP30 Toyota 1000 (sold as the Publica in Japan) was a small car produced from 1969 to 1978. It was imported from 1975 to 1978 in 2 door saloon and 3 door estate form.
The KP60 Toyota Starlet was a RWD supermini produced from 1978 to 1984. It was imported as a 3 and 5 door hatchback.
The KP70 FWD Toyota Starlet was a supermini produced from 1984 to 1989. It was imported just as a 3 door hatchback into the UK.
The Toyota Corolla KE10 was family car produced from 1966 to 1970 as a 2 door saloon, followed by the 2 door saloon, 2 door coupe and 3 door estate KE20 to 1974. The 2 door saloon became the Corolla E and was imported until 1978.
The KE30/KE40/KE50/KE60 Toyota Corolla 30 was afamily car produced from 1974 to 1979. It was imported as a 2, 4 door saloon, 5 door estate and 2 door hardtop coupe.
The KE70 Toyota Corolla was a family car produced from 1979 to 1983. It was imported as a 2, 4 door saloon, 5 door estate and 3 door coupe.
The FWD E80 Toyota Corolla was a family car produced from 1983 to 1987, it was available as a 4 door saloon and 5 door hatchback, as well as a differently styled 3 door hatchback.
The AE86 Toyota Corolla GT also known as the Levin and Sprinter Trueno was produced from 1983 to 1987, in parallel to the FWD E80 Corolla. The AE86 is a lightweight RWD coupe or hatchback. UK imports of the 3 door hatchback started in 1984. The majority of survivors are private imports brought into the country after 1987.
The first generation 1978 L10 Toyota Tercel was not imported into the UK. The L20 5 door 4WD Estate family car was produced from 1982 to 1988. The Tercel hatchback was a FWD offshoot of the Corolla which ceased UK imports in 1984, imports of the 4WD estate ended in 1988.
The TA10/TA12/TA14 Toyota Carina was a medium sized 4 door saloon produced from 1970 to 1977. Imports to the UK started in 1971.
The replacement TA40 Toyota Carina was a medium sized and produced from 1977 to 1981. It was imported into the UK as a 4 door saloon and 5 door estate until 1982.
The TA60 Toyota Carina followed the previous versions, being produced from 1982 to 1988. It was replaced by the 1985 Carina II.
The T150 Toyota Carina II was from the Corona line of cars and was produced from 1984 to 1988. It was imported as a medium sized 4 door saloon and 5 door hatchback.
The T40/T50 Toyota Corona was a family sized car produced from 1964 to 1970. It was the first model to be imported into the UK. It was complimented by the medium sized 1968 to 1972 T60/T70 Corona Mark II 1900 saloon, coupe and estate. First imports into the UK arrived in 1969.
The Corona MK II was replaced by the medium sized RX10/RX20 MKII Corona saloon and estate produced from 1972 to 1976, imports ceased in 1975 with the importation of the T100/T110/T120 1973 to 1979 Corona saloon and estate. The T130 Corona was produced from 1979 to 1983 with only the 5 door hatchback being imported to 1981.
Known as the RX30/RX40 MKII in Japan, the medium sized Toyota Cressida was produced from 1976 to 1980, with UK imports for the saloon and estate being imported from 1977 to 1981.
The RX60 Toyota MKII (Toyota Cressida) was produced from 1980 to 1984, imports of the saloon and estate started in 1981 until 1982.
The V10 Series Toyota Camry was produced from 1982 to 1986 it was devised as an upmarket Carina. UK imports for the medium sized 4 door saloon started in 1983.
The W10 Toyota MR2 is a compact two-seated, mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports car manufactured from 1984 to 1989.
The TA22 Toyota Celica 1600 GT/ST was a medium sized sports car produced between 1970 and 1977. The first UK imports arrived in 1971. The RA 2000 GT/ST liftback series were produced from 1973, with UK imports starting in 1976.
The TA40 Toyota Celica was produced between 1977 and 1981, and imported as the 2 door coupe and 3 door liftback models.
The TA60 Toyota Celica was produced from 1981 to 1985. UK imports of the 2 door coupe, 3 door liftback and Celica Supra started in 1982.
The Toyota 2000GT was a limited production sports car made from 1967 to 1970. No official imports were sent to the UK.
The S50 Toyota Crown was produced from 1967 to 1972, UK imports of the large sized saloons and estates started in 1968.
The replacement S60/S70 Toyota Crown was produced from 1971 to 1974. All 3 body shapes were imported.
Following the previous models, the S80/S90/S100 Toyota Crown were produced from 1974 to 1979. Imports of the saloon and estate started in 1975.
The S110 Toyota Crown was produced from 1979 to 1983, with UK imports starting in 1980. It was the last Toyota Crown to be officially imported into the UK by Toyota GB. All subsequent models are private imports.
The 1979–1985 M20 LiteAce van was not officially imported into the UK, but the M30/M40 small sized Toyota LiteAce produced from 1985 to 2007 was imported until 1987.
The Toyota Model F/Space Cruiser was produced from 1982 to 1991 was a variation on the LiteAce, with UK imports starting in 1983 until 1990. All subsequent Space Cruiser are grey imports.
The H10 Toyota Hiace was produced from 1967 to 1977, with the medium sized chassis cab, pick up, panel vans and minibus UK imports arriving in 1973.
The H11/H20/H30/H40 Toyota Hiace was produced from 1977 to 1982, it was imported in the same guises as the previous model and became popular conversion for Devon Motorhomes.
The H50/H60/H70 Toyota Hiace was produced from 1982 to 1989.
The N20 Toyota Hilux N20 was produced from 1972 to 1978, with pick up truck imports starting in 1973. Its replacement, the N30/N40 1978 to 1983 Toyota Hiace offered the same 2WD pick truck format, and was joined by a 4×4 version imported in 1980. Its replacement the N50/N60/N70 Toyota Hilux was produced from 1983 to 1988.
The J40 4X4 off roader Toyota Land Crusier was produced from 1960 to 1984, with UK imports starting in 1975 but ceased in 1977. Subsequent J40 Land Cruisers are grey imports. After a gap of 4 years the less utilitarian J60 LWB Land Cruiser estate produced from 1980 to 1989 replace it as Toyotas UK 4X4 entry.
