A major player in the car building game, Standard became known for producing tough reliable cars, a range of no-nonsense conservatively styled saloons. The company took over Triumph in 1945 and both companies co-existed until the Leyland takeover in 1961. The Triumph name was retained but the last Standard was produced in 1963.
