European Car of the Year
Introduced in Europe to award a manufacturer the highly prized and marketable ‘Car of the Year’ award. Similar awards existed in the United States, but an European award was officially created in 1964 to recognise the global motor industry. The panels consisted of motoring publication journalists from all over Europe, it was set up to provide a definitive title.
There were no specific requisite for the voting criteria, but innovative engineering, styling and packaging would often be factors, as much as collaboration, history and trends.
